Back Massage Techniques
If you've​ not had a massage before, here is an example of the kind of techniques and process that Stephen will follow, when massaging your back. Effleurage means flowy movements, to move and warm-up the muscles. Stephen will constantly check with you to adjust pressures and movements according to your preference.

Effleurage. Into waist, rib cage, and shoulders

Alternate double handed kneading

Ironing with both hands from the side

Figure of eight ironing, kneading

Picking up the back

Wringing the shoulders

Skin rolling bringing hands together

Warming slides in quick succession

Finger kneading around the scapula and up and down the spine

Shaking/rocking the body and spine

Vibrations up the spine

Spinal lengthening/opening stretches/slides

Effleurage down the body from the head

Kneading the neck

Alternate neck strokes with two hands

Lymphatic drainage up the spine

Finger spirals away from the spine

Multiple finger rotates either side of spine

Neuro-muscular points knuckling up and down spine and around shoulder blades

Light strokes/feathering
